Natural products from food sources can alter the spread of antimicrobial resistance plasmids in Enterobacterales
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health threat, particularly in Gram-negative bacteria. AMR plasmids carry genes that can transfer between bacteria. Natural product extracts and compounds can reduce AMR plasmid conjugation into new hosts. However, natural products like rottlerin, which is active in K. pneumoniae, may not achieve a large-scale reduction in AMR. However, these natural products could provide a foundation for further research into compounds with effective anti-plasmid activity.
